Chapter 1 - Free Play

Follow these steps to allow free play on the game. Please note that playing for free will be legal from Feb 08. This is due to the fact that sega are shutting down its PSO servers so playing for free is the only way to play. Also note that for this guide i will assume you have installed to :
C:\Program Files\SEGA\PHANTASY STAR ONLINE Blue Burst\

1. Download the game from here : PSOBB Main and install it
2. Download the Japanese Item Patch from here : Jap Item Patch
3. Download the Episode IV Offline file from here : Data Fix
4. Register an Account here : Registration
5. Go to the Start Menu and click run. In the box type in :
notepad.exe c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
This will open up a text file. At the very bottem of this file put in :
207.210.93.28 game01.us.segaonline.jp
207.210.93.28 patch01.us.segaonline.jp
Save it and close.
6. Extract the Jap Item Patch files to PSO's main folder :
C:\Program Files\SEGA\PHANTASY STAR ONLINE Blue Burst\
and overwrite all existing files.
7. Double click the data fix file and install it to :
C:\Program Files\SEGA\PHANTASY STAR ONLINE Blue Burst\data
8. Now right click the Online exe located in PSO's main folder and create a shortcut to the desktop.
9. Double click the shortcut and when it loads click options. Check the windowed mode box, set it to 32bit colours & Check the final box saying something about saving login info. Then click the save button and the exe will restart.

Chapter 2 - Creating a Character

Creating a character is simple. First of all you must select your class. There are 3 different classes each with 4 different types of people.

Hunter - Skilled in bladed weapons and able to use a variety of other weapons. Though lacking in the accuracy area they make up for it with attack power.
Ranger - Skilled with guns. They have great accuracy but low attack power.
Force - Skilled with magic. They have low HP but make up for it with their powerful techniques. They also make excellent support characters

Hunter :
HUmar = Hunter + Human + Male
HUnewearl = Hunter + Newman + Female
HUcast = Hunter + Android + Male
HUcaseal = Hunter + Android + Female

Ranger :
RAmar = Ranger + Human + Male
RAmarl = Ranger + Human + Female
RAcast = Ranger + Android + Male
RAcaseal = Ranger + Android + Female

Force :
FOmar = Force + Human + Male
FOmarl = Force + Human + Female
FOnewm = Force + Newman + Male
FOnewearl = Force + Newman + Female

Those are the classes for you. Androids cannot use Magic so you know.

Once youve selected one of them you can make a character. This is really simple but DO NOT USE THE SECOND FROM LAST OPTION! This option is Automatic. It will reset your character and make a random one. So avoid this or else you will lose the character you made.

Chapter 3 - The Lobby

The lobby is where you begin. After making a character you will be taken to the ship select menu. These are basically different servers. The brackets show how many people are on that ship. Select a ship and then select a block and you will be taken to a lobby. Each lobby can hold up to 8 people. And there are 13 lobbies to a ship. Lobby 14 and 15 are also there and are where special events are held. In the lobby you can laze around and chat to people.
In each lobby though there is a desk. Now this is where you want to go. Go to this desk and press enter and get ready to start playing.

Chapter 4 - Making A Game - Single

Although online is the main focus of the game you can play alone. Go to the front desk and go to organize party. Go create party and put in a name and pass. Then select the next option which is set to normal and select one player. Now you are ready to begin playing solo. This is good for some private training.

Chapter 5 - Making A Game - Friends

You will probably get some friends into the PSO craze and want to play a game with them. To do this create a party like before but this time dont change to one player just keep it on normal. Add a password and the game is made. You can either tell your friend the password in the lobby or through a Instant Messaging program. There is also another way which will be explained in Chapter 6.

Chapter 6 - Making A Game - Anyone

Another fun thing to do is play with those you dont know. Set up a room and call it all welcome and have no pass. Keep the game mode as normal and just choose a difficulty and begin. Now just wait for people to join in. You can go train whilst you wait but people cannot join if you are in a quest. If someone joins and trains or joins a quest with you bring up the menu, go to chat, then guild card, select my card and select send. Send it to the person you are playing with to have yourself added to there contacts. If they send you theres then they will be on your contacts list and you can send PM's to one another. Have fun!
